The disposal of polyethylene is an environmental issue of increasing concern. Mix EPRON’s Polyclean^TM masterbatch with your polyethylene to produce film that will degrade when disposed of - in the soil, above ground or in water. Properly stored, the film has a shelf life suitable for practical applications and breakdown rate on disposal can be varied with different levels of additive. The patented Polyclean^TM formulation, the culmination of 25 years of continuous research and development, works through combined oxidative and biological action.

How to process polyethylene containing Polyclean^TM masterbatch

The masterbatch is easily incorporated into polyethylene films using conventional film blowing equipment. Temperature and residence time in the extruder are important parameters in processing degradable polyethylene. Process temperatures should not exceed 230^oC during normal extruder residence times of 1 to 4 minutes. This permits Polyclean^TM to be used for a wide range of polyolefine plastics in addition to polyethylene.

At the usual addition level of 15%, Polyclean^TM masterbatch is the convenient and economic choice to produce degradable film.*  For further information see our technology page.

How to handle and mix Polyclean^TM masterbatch

Polyclean 403 and 404 masterbatches contain starch*, which absorbs moisture, so simple precautions must be taken to keep Polyclean^TM dry. Polyclean^TM is heat-sealed in thick polyethylene sacks and should be processed immediately after opening.

Typically, a film will contain 15% Polyclean^TM masterbatch. Uniformity is important: mix in Polyclean^TM as you would a colour masterbatch.

*We also produce a grade without starch, Polyclean 405, which has a much lower addition level.
